I tend to talk a lot about the weather in my blog posts, but the weather influences how we dress because clothes are fundamentally for protection above all else. As I write this, Los Angeles is anticipating the worst storm of the season. It’s a bit ironic then that this post (which features pictures taken before the storm began) features shorts, but what can I say? I am a June baby; I’m anxiously waiting for the sun to come out.

If you know me or my style, you know one of my favorite staples in my closet is a killer graphic tee. This is one way I like to dress them up a bit, or what I would wear to a concert. Swap out this top for a band tee and you’ve got a unique, edgy outfit that will stand out in a crowd of people wearing the same band shirt (haha)! But seriously, I love this look. I paired the top with vintage Levi shorts, lace thigh highs, and this very comfortable low boot. I actually prefer this look with the jacket, and this one is light weight enough to wear in the spring. My purse as of late has been this backpack. It’s really easy, but I am on the hunt for the perfect black bag. Any suggestions?

Flicker, Fade

Bodysuit | Soto

Pants | Soto

Jacket | Soto

Boots | Steve Madden

We’re a bit classier today with this stunning suede coat and statement flares. Both of these pieces can be dressed up or dressed down. The weight of the coat is perfect for this transition season and the color is a perfect cool tone. These pants are probably my favorite piece in my wardrobe as of late, as they look great with bodysuits, crop tops, and band tees. I think the trick to wearing these pants with boots is to choose a boot that is higher on the ankle and tighter in that area, so it sits nicely at the hem. That took some trial and error to figure out. I paired the look with a tight lace up body suit to balance out the wideness of the pants and coat, and added some edge with a very wide choker. I’m not normally a cuff kind of person but this beautiful one was gifted to me from my boyfriend’s mother, and I love it. It adds the perfect touch of hardware that will stand out. I kept the hair straight and messy to keep the look edgy. I hope you enjoy this look! Thank you as always!

See you soon

Fuzzy Jacket | Soto Boutique

Denim Jacket | Hollister

Jeans | Forever 21 (DIY distressing)

Sneakers | Vans

There’s something about this top that makes me feel girly and retro. Appliqué is huge for spring, and pretty much consumes all of LF’s instagram. I added some edge to a feminine and relatively young top by pairing it with destroyed, black high waisted jeans and fishnets. To keep it clean and bright, I added some white leather slip ons. I like mixing it up with outerwear, and I thought both of these jackets were really great options for this look. Denim, while being lighter in weight, breaks up the black and adds brightness. Regardless, who can say no to a jacket thats basically a robe? I picked up some of the pink in my lipstick and added a wing liner to play with the retro vibes.

I hope you enjoy this look! I am working to get content up more often, but follow my instagram @jessandthreads for more fashion posts!

Thank you as always! Have a great day!

Crazy Dream

Mesh Bodysuit | Boohoo

T-shirt | BDG

Jeans | BDG

Jacket | BB Dakota

Boots  (I’m obsessed) | Steve Madden | here

I feel like an amped up version of myself with shorter hair, and I’ve felt a bit more inspired with my fashion lately. That being said, I’m so stoked to share this look with you. Mesh is still big these days and lately, I’ve been seeing mesh under boxy t-shirts. This is such a cool transition statement for this time of year, especially with some edgy jewelry and makeup. I kept it casual with some mom jeans, but also added some height with my *shiny* new boots from Steve Madden. I forgot to get a close up of these, but I’ve barely taken them off so you will definitely be seeing them again! I scored this awesome, relaxed vegan leather jacket from BB Dakota, which is surprisingly light-weight, making it another great transitional piece.

I hope you enjoyed this outfit! Please feel free to like, comment and share! Thank you as always ❤

If you’re not following me on instagram (shameless plug-  @jessandthreads), then you probably just found out that I cut my hair! I donated 12 inches of my hair and I am so happy with the result! I went a little bit lighter in color, and I oddly feel so much more like myself with hair this length. I have never in my life had hair this short, so I’m still really excited about it haha!

Onto the outfit, this is what a lot of my transitional outfits have looked like this month. These overalls are a relaxed, boyfriend cut. They are so comfortable and versatile, as you can pair them with a cute crop top in the warmer weather. We’ve had come crazy rain in LA lately, so I would even add a black beanie to this look and swap the Vans our for my Dr. Martens. It’s always fun for me to find pieces like these overalls that can be worn countless ways! Let me know what you think of this look, and feel free to share!

Thank you so much as always ❤

Instinctive

This outfit is pretty typical of me for everyday. Comfort is key, and lately I’ve been totally into the hoodie trend. This cropped, distressed one is from Soto and I love how it looks with my favorite bralette. This bralette adds the coolest touch to any outfit. It’s also amazing for just any top that is low cut, or one that always falls off the shoulders. Hoodies also look great with jackets over them. This specific jacket is army green with black leather sleeves, and is by Celebrity Pink. I kept it simple with black skinny jeans, as per usual. I finished off the look with my black buckle booties. These are meant to be worn without socks, but I’m someone who just feels gross without socks, so that’s why you’ll see polka dots peeking through haha.

Lately, more so than ever, I have been really focusing on myself. Part of my mission to build my confidence is to fully and totally embrace my own unique style and follow my instinct. So often I am attracted to pieces or outfits that are immediately rejected by others. I used to always ask the opinion of others before purchasing things that I genuinely adored, or had to check with someone else if my outfit “went together” every time I went out. I touched on this subject a few posts back, but I think I should repeat it. You do not need the constant approval of others. In fact, even when Max is taking my blog pictures, he sometimes isn’t a huge fan of the outfit itself. However, he acknowledges and supports that anyone can wear whatever they want and feel good in. Often, if I like something that is daring or earns its fair share of confused looks, I feel even more empowered. This outfit is pretty simple and not very crazy, but it’s just an idea I’ve been trying to embrace more and more, so I thought to share.

Thanks for checking out my blog! See you soon

Right Back At It Again

Wow, long time no see!

First of all, I hope you all had the happiest of holidays and wish you a happy new year! I hadn’t expected my break to be so long, especially since I was gifted a new camera and equipment for Christmas. Unfortunately, we lost my grandmother this holiday season, so I really needed time to regroup and be inspired again.

I am so happy to be back and sharing this sort of double post with you! Each of these cardigans gave off different looks and I simply couldn’t choose. Black faux leather leggings and a white camisole make an easy transitional base to work with. Since we are just coming out of December, I still feel like I can get away with wearing burgundy, yet the dusty rose cardigan adds a feminine, spring touch. The outfit using the dusty rose cardigan could also be a great look for a casual Valentine’s Day date. I am falling back in love with these boots from Steve Madden that I have had for years. They are such a comfortable boot with a great height, and I love the traction and zipper details. You don’t always need to be following trends or buying new pieces. Just be creative with what you have!

Thank you so much for supporting my blog! I am so excited for 2017…

Whatever Works

Hoodie | This Will Destroy You merch | (thanks max)

Jeans | Soto | similar

Fishnets | Amazon | here

As I mentioned in my last post, comfort is everything to me, especially when I’m busy in the library for finals week. The fact that hoodies are in style right now is awesome, and this outfit was so comfortable! I wore this a lot during finals week because it was easy and effortless, and I actually got quite a few compliments, so I thought I should post it! I just borrowed my boyfriend’s black hoodie because I am on the hunt for my perfect black, oversized graphic hoodie. You could wear oversized hoodies like this, or (depending how long it is) with shorts, tights, and over-the-knee boots. There are actually a few ways that you can make a hoodie look put together. Lately, I love wearing fishnets under ripped jeans. It’s an easy way to spice up an everyday look, and I love these specific ones because of how wide the net is. I linked these exact pair above. The jeans are by the brand Eunina, and are available at Soto. These are my favorite jeans right now because I love how destroyed they are.  There you have it: an outfit that is equally comfortable and badass haha! Thank you for checking out my blog! I’ll talk to you in my next post! ❤

Salt & Pepper

Cropped Turtleneck | Boohoo | same in navy or similar

Cardigan | Soto

Jeans | BDG | here

Shoes | Dr. Martens | here

Due to my lack of energy from the end of the semester, simple and comfortable are the only criteria to me right now. Lately, I’ve found one of the simplest combinations that is cute, comfortable, and moderately warm is pairing a cropped sweater with high-waisted mom-jeans. I love this sweater that I recently purchased on Boohoo.com, but cropped sweaters are everywhere right now. The turtleneck adds a smart and warm detail. I layered my current favorite cardigan from Soto on top (these are flying out the door, so hurry if you want one). I’m not kidding when I say I’ve worn this cardigan everyday to the library this week, but once you feel one, you won’t blame me. Adding to comfort, these Dr. Martens are definitely the way to go! Here is just a simple outfit that is perfect for anything casual. It’s relaxed but put together at the same time. I hope you enjoyed this quick post! School has been killer and I am hoping to be posting more frequently again within the next couple of weeks! Thank you for all your love and support!

See you next time,

Wild One

Coat | Macy’s | here

Bodysuit | Soto | similar (with stunning back detail)

Jeans | Soto | very similar

Shoes | old Steve Madden

Liquid Lipstick | ColourPop | here

Good morning, beautiful!  I have been on the search for the perfect faux fur jacket for a while now, and I scored this one on an online Black Friday sale. Can you believe I found this stunning piece at Macy’s? I only say that because often, besides their designer pieces, I don’t have good luck at Macy’s, which is a shame because their prices can be very affordable. I think the best parts about this jacket are that it’s faux fur, has pockets, it’s warm, AND it’s actually reversible. So, if it’s colder outside than you expected, flip it inside out, and you have a cute, even warmer coat with faux fur detailing. I decided to go all black under to really highlight the stunning colors in this jacket,
while adding touches of detail with the lace up and the zipper in my shoes. As usual, you can never go wrong with a good-ole’ black high-waisted jean. I kept my makeup warm, as usual, and added a metallic lipstick. I absolutely love this look. Let me know what you thought of the outfit! Links to everything or similar items are always above. Please be sure to share this post!

Thank you all for your love!
