Hi everyone! It’s so good to be back and writing to you again.
Since my last post on this blog, the world has pretty much turned upside down in more ways than one. I’ll spare you the repetitive recount that everyone’s giving, and leave it at this:
2020 was the year everything changed.
I’m not normally personal on this blog (well, I guess lately I’m not normally on this blog in general) but I wanted to reintroduce myself as the new version of me, hopefully a better one at that.
My name is Jessica (Jess) Helou and I started this blog in 2016 to share outfit posts and fashion collages (r.i.p. polyvore.com). I studied Apparel Design and Merchandising while minoring in Business Management at California State University, Northridge. In college, this platform was my creative outlet, a place for me to let out all the excitement coursing through my veins. I was so incredibly anxious to start my career in fashion. Since then, I have interned at Nordstrom as a Visual Merchandiser, interned at Style PR Showroom, and I have worked at Soto Boutique for five years, where I have become an Associate Buyer. Fashion is my art form, and so is writing. This blog was my perfect mix of the two.
In the past few years, my vision for my future became a little muddled. This blog suffered in result, as I searched for what I ultimately wanted to do and who I wanted to be. My creativity and desire to post was exhausted, and only weakened by the difficult year that was 2020.
I know I’m not alone in my feeling frozen in time, while simultaneously feeling time slipped away. My return to this blog, my once sacred creative sound chamber, is my attempt to regain some of myself that I misplaced for a while. I just want to do what I love and share it with anyone who will care to read. I’m so excited to keep talking fashion even in this new era, one full of sweats and zoom calls. It’s important to focus on what brings us joy through these uncertain, seemingly stagnant times.
So that’s my spiel. I hope you’ll stick around for maybe more ramblings, and for sure a lot more fashion inspiration!
Here’s a few photos of looks from the year that don’t include sweatpants 🙂
See you VERY soon,
Jess
